This FREE Christmas Shapes Book perfectly complements my Christmas Shapes Match activity since it will reinforce their shapes knowledge and keep a book to review them in a pretty and fun hands-on way.

The activity includes a mini book divided into 14 half pages with red and green shape outlines (two per full page) and two pages with matching shapes in two different Christmas prints. Each mini page includes one shape outline and the word representing the shape’s name in dotted lines.

You can keep their books in the classroom during December to allow them to review the shapes, send their books home, or make a copy, laminate it, and put it in your library and the different centers.

This activity is excellent for strengthening the children’s shape knowledge, concentration, one-to-one correspondence, visual discrimination, and fine motor skills.

To prepare this book for your children, you only need a handful of materials, which are:

Print one copy of the entire book for each child on white paper. The idea is to print the books using color ink, but if you think it might be too pricey, you can always use black ink and only print the one for your classroom in color.

Give each child a book with the shapes already cut out unless the child knows how to cut well.  You don’t want the shapes cut out wrong.

Invite them to choose a shape, say its name, find the matching outline in the book, glue the shape with a pretty print on top of its outline, trace the shape’s name using pencils, crayons, or markers, and copy the word next to it if there’s room.

Cut out the pages of the books on the dotted line and put them together using staples.

To extend the activity, you can:

    • Have the children copy the shapes on white paper.
    • Match each shape with a plastic shape.
    • Find the shapes they are tracing in objects around the classroom.
    • Spell the names of the shapes using magnetic, foam, or wooden letters.
    • Use two sets of shapes with prints to create a memory game.

You can also combine this activity with others to give your preschoolers options and create a richer Christmas learning environment.  Some of the activities you can use are:

As I always say… you always have to include storybooks in everything you do. It is essential to read to your preschoolers every day. Stories provide children with many benefits for their learning process because they help them develop their imagination, learn vocabulary, understand concepts, and develop their pre-reading and pre-writing skills, among other benefits.

Below are some of my favorite Christmas books.  You can find these books at your local library, used book store, and on Amazon.  If you want to purchase some, click on the titles, and my affiliate link will take you directly to its page on Amazon.

    • ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on the Farm by Craig Manning. In this Christmas picture book for kids, readers will love sharing the excitement before Santa Claus arrives in this charming twist on the classic holiday story, filled with sweet farm animals, delightful rhymes, and beautiful illustrations.
    • The Christmas Wish by Lori Ever. Long ago, a brave little girl named Anja wanted to be one of Santa’s elves. So, she left a note for her family and helped her elderly neighbor prepare for the holiday. Then, she strapped on her skis and headed out into the snowy landscape. A generous trim size, matte cover, extraordinary photographs, and foiled title make this a particular book for the holiday season.
    • Little Red Sleigh by Erin Guendelsberger.  This heartwarming book is full of winter joy and Christmas magic and will remind you and your kids that no dream is out of reach if you believe.
    • The Littest Christmas Tree by R. A. Herman. Only five days until Christmas, the Littlest Christmas Tree still awaits a home. On Christmas Eve, its wish comes true when the man who runs the Christmas tree stand takes it home to his family.
    • A Silly Milly Christmas by Sheri Wall. With plenty of rhyming and repetition, this book is perfect for reading aloud, early learning, and animal lovers everywhere.
    • Llama Llama Jingle Bells by Anna Dewdney.  With short and simple rhyming text, the Llama Llama board books introduce Llama Llama to children before they’re ready for longer full-length stories. And their small size and durable pages are perfect for little hands.
    • How to Catch Santa Claus by Alice Walstead is poised to become a new holiday tradition. This merry picture book is filled with silly rhymes and illustrations that delight young readers and educators alike with STEAM concepts, classic hilarity, and chaos.

If you are in a rush and don’t have time to read the post and download the printable but want to save it for later, pin it to one of your Christmas or Math Pinterest boards to have it available when you need it.
