The Days of the Week Cards pack includes two sets of signs, arrows, and days-of-the-week cards: one in English and one in Spanish.  You can get your own set at the bottom of this post.

The Days of the Week Cards give children a helpful visual reference as they learn to recognize and remember each day, help you reinforce daily routines, and encourage participation in classroom activities while building an understanding of days, weeks, schedules, and early time concepts.

They are perfect for preschool, daycares, childcare centers, homeschool learning spaces, calendar time, circle time, morning meeting routines, bulletin boards, time and sequencing activities, early learning centers, and classroom décor.

Using the Days of the Week Cards also brings important benefits to preschoolers such as:

  • Build Vocabulary – Helps children practice words related to time and daily routines, helping them recognize and name the days of the week.
  • Memory & Sequencing – Using these words every day helps preschoolers remember the names and order of the days, and learn that the days follow a predictable pattern or sequence.
  • Introduces Time Concepts – These cards help children by providing an easy visual reference during classroom activities to help them begin understanding yesterday, today, and tomorrow,
  • Support Daily Routines – Using the cards during calendar or circle time gives children a consistent way to begin the day and helps children associate specific days with special classroom activities that are not part of the everyday learning.
  • Builds Confidence and Independence – Daily practice helps children become more comfortable identifying the day and participating in calendar activities.

Since this is a simple printable, you really don’t need much to get it ready.  These are the materials you need:

First, print all the pages on white cardstock, and cut out each card.  Then laminate the cards for durability and introduce them to your preschoolers.

The Days of the Week Cards help English- and Spanish-speaking children develop an understanding of time, routines, sequencing, and the weekly calendar in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Use these cards as part of a consistent, interactive daily routine to help preschoolers build understanding of sequence, time, routines, and calendar vocabulary while strengthening early math and literacy skills.

Some of the recommended activities to do with the Days of the Week Cards are:

  • Morning Calendar: Use the posters during circle time to identify the current day and talk about what happens that day.  You can also ask questions like:  “What day is today?” “What day was yesterday?”, and “What day will be tomorrow?”  to help them understand the concept of time.
  • Sequencing: You can display a set of cards in order, separate from the calendar, to encourage children to practice saying the days in order. You can also provide a separate set of cards and invite the children to place them in the correct order.
  • Using Songs: Singing is a very helpful way to help preschoolers remember different concepts; therefore, I suggest singing a days-of-the-week song while pointing to each card.
  • Pre-Reading and Pre-Writing: Children can use the cards to read, trace, copy, and write the days-of-the-week names to build early literacy skills.
  • Daily Routines: Use the cards to show children what activities are planned for each day.  This also provides a good opportunity to designate a calendar helper for the day or the week, whose job will be to move the arrows to the correct day.
  • Promote Conversation: Use the cards to encourage children to talk about the activities done the day before, recall the ones done that day, and predict what will happen the next day.  Use the Saturday and Sunday cards to encourage children to share what they did or enjoyed doing on weekends and holidays.
