This FREE Animal ABC book is an incredibly useful resource for preschoolers learning their letters and animal names and could be the perfect addition to your lesson plans.

Each page of this Animal ABC Book features a different animal for each letter of the alphabet, its name, a simple text for preschoolers to read, an image for preschoolers to color, and a tiny, colorful image that children can copy if they want. You can get it at the end of this post.
Benefits of the Animal ABC Book
This interesting Animal ABC book will allow children to learn more about animals and practice pre-reading and pre-writing skills. In other words, it will help them:
- Learn the names of the letters (letter recognition).
- Associate sounds with specific letters (beginning sounds).
- Learn more about known animals (science).
- Learn about new animals (narwhal, peacock, and urinal).
- Practice their tracing words and coloring skills (fine motor and creativity).
- Make them feel successful, since it uses repetitive language in the phrases.
Each page presents a different letter of the alphabet and an animal whose name starts with that letter, along with the image and a sentence that says “A is for alligator”, etc.
Another advantage of this book is that you don’t have to give it all to the children immediately. You can add each page to your lesson plans as needed as you introduce each letter of the week, or when you teach about each animal during your science period.
How to Prepare the Animal ABC Book
This book is also very easy to get ready. Just print out the pages, cut out the pages outside the lines, and have the children color the animals using colored pencils or crayons and trace the phrases. Once they finish with all the pages, bind them together with staples to create a mini book that children will keep and re-read for a long time.

Related Books
One of the best ways to teach preschoolers about anything is through books. Alphabet books allow young learners to focus on one letter at a time, identify the letters and the sounds these letters make (phonemic awareness),
When alphabet books include animals as well, they will allow them to learn about the natural world and some information about those animals (science). If, in addition, these books also include simple text or phrases, that will help children learn vocabulary and develop pre-reading skills.
I can suggest some good books I’ve used in the past and still use in my preschool classroom. These books can be found at your local library, used bookstore, and on Amazon. If you want to add them to your collection, you can use my affiliate link for immediate access.
