These FREE Spring Line Tracing activities will help your kiddos work on the development of the small muscles of their hands, fingers, and thumbs, which then will allow them to perform essential tasks such as grasping, buttoning, or feeding themselves, let along drawing, pasting and writing, among other ones.

Tracing activities, like other fine motor activities such as painting, doing puzzles, and playing with playdough, will prepare them to start writing on their own later on.

Spring Line Tracing Activities

These free Spring line tracing activities will bring something different to your preschool classroom this Spring.

The pack includes two sets of tracing line activities, the first set includes sixteen full-page activities, and the second set includes five pages of line tracing strips, for a total of twenty pages.  You can find them at the end of this post.

How to Prepare the Spring Pre-Writing Activities

If you want to use these activities individually, just select the ones you want to use, print them on white paper, and have the children use a pencil, crayon, or marker to trace the letters and words.  But, if you want them to be used multiple times, I will suggest printing them on white cardstock and laminating them or placing them in a dry-erase pouch and having the children use a dry-erase marker to trace them.

These pre-writing activities can be used as a small group activity, Writing and Literacy centers option, take a home game or Quiet area option.

To make it more fun and give your children more variety and choices, you can add Spring writing materials and manipulatives to the mix, and combine them with my other Spring activities.  They all come with free printables and you can get them by just clicking on the links below:

To extend the activity you can use it to:

  • Teach or review letters sounds and names.
  • Spell the words.
  • Match each letter and word with magnetic, foam, or wooden letters.
  • Copy the letters and words with playdough.

Don’t Forget Your Stories

Reading and writing go together, and children cannot properly learn one without the other.  That is why I always recommend including story books related to each theme, making sure you add new ones to your library, book baskets, and centers.  These are some of my favorite Spring stories. You can find them at your local library, used book store, or Amazon.  For your convenience, I added my affiliate links to each of the pictures.  You just have to click on the pictures and that will bring you to the Amazon website in seconds.

Use every opportunity to give them plenty of variety and choices, for their different levels of skills and interests, and most importantly, have fun while doing it.  The children will pick up on your excitement and it will give them the extra encouragement to keep them engaged.

Pin It for Later
