Christmas Counting for Preschoolers

Keeping your preschoolers focused on learning during the holidays can be challenging. Their minds are full of wishes for Santa, vacation, and fun. However, when you provide educational activities that make them feel like they are just playing, such as this FREE Christmas Counting, you can keep them engaged in the holiday-based learning process.

Christmas Counting Activities
Preschoolers need to know how to count to ten to lay the foundation for more complex math activities later. These Christmas Counting Activities will give preschoolers plenty of practice counting to ten and improve that essential skill.
These hands-on activities will keep your children engaged in a fun way that will not overwhelm them, which is the key to helping them develop basic counting skills. These worksheets are perfect because you don’t need to prep them—print them out and go!
How to Prepare the Activities
These easy-to-prep hands-on activities only need a handful of materials to get them ready, which are:
- Christmas Counting Activities Pack (found at the end of this post).
- Printer.
- White paper or cardstock.
- Laminator or dry-erase pockets.
- Pencils, markers, crayons, or dry-erase markers.
Print each page on white paper and give each child one page at a time. Have them use a pencil, marker, or crayon to match or circle the correct numbers. If you want to use the pages multiple times, print them out on white cardstock and laminate them or place them in dry-erase pockets.
How to Use These Printables
Since your preschoolers don’t know how to read yet, you must give the children one of the pages and instruct them on how to use it. The activities differ, but all involve counting.
- Count and Match: the children will have to count the presents under the tree and/or on top of the car, and trace a line to match the amount with the correct numeral.
- Count and Circle: They will have to count the pictures in each rectangle and circle the correct number. For another alternative, they can use clothespins to mark the number.
- Count and Circle: They will have to count the elves on the sleigh or the ornaments in the wreaths, and circle the correct number.
- Count and Write: They will have to count the Christmas animals in each row and write the correct number in the square.

In this Christmas picture book for kids, readers will love sharing in the excitement as Santa Claus arrives in this charming twist on the classic holiday story, filled with sweet farm animals, delightful rhymes, and beautiful illustrations.
- The Christmas Wish by Lori Ever. Long ago, a brave little girl named Anja wanted to be one of Santa’s elves. So she left a note for her family and helped her elderly neighbor prepare for the holiday. Then, she strapped on her skis and headed out into the snowy landscape. - Little Red Sleigh by Erin Guendelsberger. This heartwarming book is full of winter joy and Christmas magic and will remind you and your kids that no dream is out of reach if you believe.
- The Littest Christmas Tree by R. A. Herman. There are only five days until Christmas, and the Littlest Christmas Tree is still waiting for a home. On Christmas Eve, his wish comes true when the man who runs the Christmas tree stand takes it home to his family.
- A Silly Milly Christmas by Sheri Wall. With plenty of rhyming and repetition, this book is perfect for reading aloud, early learning, and animal lovers everywhere.
