These FREE Bats Castle Alphabet Cards can be used for different literacy and math activities throughout the week, hoping to give your preschoolers something different to do and give you more options for your lesson plans.

Here in Florida, you don’t see changes in the leaves, and the colder temperatures only last one or two days, unfortunately, but we always try to help children see the differences that happen in other states and even countries.  It’s a good social studies lesson, which adds to their education. Regardless of the weather, Halloween is an exciting time for young children, and a good opportunity to use their excitement and bring something new to the classroom.

This printable includes all the letters of the alphabet distributed over 13 pages with four cards each, two castle cards with uppercase letters, and two bat cards with lowercase letters. Make sure to grab your FREE set at the end of this post!

How to Prepare Your Cards

Print each page using white cardstock to make the cards strong enough to support daily use. Cut them out and laminate them to make them last longer.

I always print several sets, to be able to place them in different centers such as:

  • Small group activity.
  • Literacy activity.
  • Writing center option.
  • Take-home activity.
  • Quiet area option

It is a good practice since it gives preschoolers choices and invites them to use them.

How to Use the Cards

  • As a Phonemic Awareness Activity –to teach or review the letters’ sounds and names.  You can also show a letter card and invite the children to say a word that starts with that letter.
  • As a literacy matching activity – have your preschoolers match uppercase and lowercase letter cards, and/or match each letter with plastic, wooden, or foam manipulative ones.
  • As a writing activity – have the children copy the letters using pencils, crayons, or markers, or trace them on top of them using dry-erase markers.
