In celebration of National Dog Day this August 26th, I wanted to offer you this FREE Dog Alphabet Matching Game.
Preschoolers will love to match the letters in this hands-on alphabet matching game. It also adds greatly to your Dogs National Day activities pack or your pet theme.
This FREE Dogs Alphabet Matching Game comes with uppercase houses and balls, lowercase food bowls, and puppies, so you can decide to have your preschoolers match the uppercase letters, the lowercase letters, or upper to lowercase letters. You can get this game by clicking on the bottom at the end of this post.

Benefits of Letter Matching Game for Preschoolers
Since letters are the basis of any language, matching-letter games help preschoolers become more familiar with the alphabet and develop their ability to recognize letters in both uppercase and lowercase. In other words, recognizing the letters will enable preschoolers to associate printed text with the spoken language.
Another advantage of this type of game is that it keeps preschoolers engaged because they don’t feel bored doing it, and it helps children learn alphabet letters easily and quickly. Once they recognize the letters and master their names, the children can learn the letter sounds easier, especially because the sounds of many letter names are very similar to the sound the letter makes.
How to Prepare and Use the Dogs Alphabet Matching Game
You will only need a handful of materials to prepare this game. These are:
- Printer.
- White cardstock.
- Scissors.
- Laminator.
- Laminator pouches.
- Transparent Velcro dots (optional)
Since this is a hands-on alphabet game, you only have to print the pages on white cardstock. You can keep the houses’ pages together if you want, or cut them out. Cut out the puppies, food bowls, and balls. Laminate everything for durability. If you want to use it as a folder game, just paste the houses into a manila folder.
You can also place transparent Velcro dotson top of the houses and behind the puppies, food bowls, and balls. That way, the pieces will stick together as the child matches the letters.
Books About Dogs
It is always good to read storybooks about what you are talking about, add them to your library and other centers, and give children a wide range of learning experiences and variety to choose from. These dog-related books could be an excellent source of knowledge for your preschoolers. You can find them at your local library, used bookstore, or on Amazon. I’ve added my direct Amazon links to each title to make it easier for you.
