How to Prepare and Use These Cards
The Christmas Beginning Sounds Clip Cards require little preparation. They are fun and educational and can be used in the classroom or home.
You will only need:
- The Christmas Beginning Sound Clip Cards Pack (found at the end of this post).
- Printer.
- White Cardstock.
- Scissors.
- Laminator.
- Laminating Sheets.
- Clothespins.
Print the cards on white cardstock, cut them out, and laminate them for durability. Place each set on a small basket with clothespins.
I suggest printing multiple copies of the activities and placing them in different centers to encourage your preschoolers to use them. That way, you can use them as:
- Small group activity
- Literacy center option
- Writing center
- Take home game
- Quiet area option
Begin by introducing them to your preschoolers as a phonemic awareness activity, having your kiddos identify the picture, and then review the beginning letter name and sound.
After you finish this activity, give the child the cards and clothespins. Instruct them to pick one card at a time, name the object, and place the clothespin on the correct letter representing the beginning sound.
These cards can be used alone or combined with my other FREE Christmas activity packs to give them more choices. You can get them below:

Extension Activities:
To extend the activity and make it more interesting, you can:
- Add manipulatives such as mini Christmas figures, mini Christmas erasers, Christmas buttons, pom poms, or any other materials, and have the children mark the beginning sound with those manipulatives instead.
- Have the children trace the letters using dry-erase markers or copy them on white paper using pencils, markers, or crayons.
- Match each letter with plastic, wooden, or foam letters.
- Draw their favorite pictures.
