Here in Florida, you don’t see changes in the leaves; unfortunately, the colder temperatures only last one or two days. Still, we always try to help children see the differences in other states and countries. It’s an excellent social studies lesson, which adds to their education. Regardless of the weather, Halloween is an exciting time for young children and a fantastic opportunity to use their excitement and bring something new to the classroom.
This printable includes all the letters of the alphabet distributed over 13 pages with four cards each, two castle cards with uppercase letters, and two bat cards with lowercase letters. Make sure to grab your FREE set at the end of this post!
How to Prepare Your Cards
Print each page using white cardstock to strengthen the cards to support daily use. Cut them out and laminate them to make them last longer.
I always print several sets to be able to place them in different centers, such as:
- Small group activity.
- Literacy activity.
- Writing center option.
- Take-home activity.
- Quiet area option
It is a good practice since it gives preschoolers choices and invites them to use them.
How to Use the Cards
- As a Phonemic Awareness Activity –to teach or review the letters’ sounds and names. You can also show a letter card and invite the children to say a word that starts with that letter.
- As a literacy matching activity, have your preschoolers match uppercase and lowercase letter cards and match each letter with magnetic, wooden, or foam letters.
- As a writing activity – have the children copy the letters using pencils, markers, or crayons or trace them on top using dry-erase markers.
Benefits of This Activity
This activity will allow preschoolers to practice their:
- Letter recognition or identification.
- Name each letter and match it with its upper and lower-case written form.
- Ability to distinguish between letters that look alike.
- One-to-one correspondence.
- Fine motor skills.
- Pre-writing skills.
