Easter Beginning Sounds Clip Cards For Preschoolers

This Easter Beginning Sounds Clip Cards are the perfect letter identification and beginning sounds activity to celebrate Easter.  It is very easy to put together and is great to strengthen the children’s concentration, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, literacy, letter recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and fine motor skills.

Easter Beginning Sounds Clip Cards

The best way to teach the alphabet is by using fun hands-on activities, that keep children engaged and interested.  These clip cards are easy to use and they also help preschoolers develop their fine motor skills when they press the clothespins to mark the correct letters.

These cards can be used as a small group activity, take-home practice, and choices for Literacy, Writing, and Quiet areas.  You can even place them in other centers if you want, and they are perfect to be combined with my other Easter activities, to give your preschoolers different choices.

Setting Up the Easter Beginning Sound Clip Cards Activity

This low-prep activity is very easy to put together.  You just have to print out the pages in white cardstock, cut out the cards and laminate them for durability.  Place them on a tray or basket with some clothespins, and invite your preschoolers to join you to name some of the pictures and find the beginning sound letters.

Then give the child the cards and clothespins.  The child needs to say the name of the objects in each card and place a clothespin on top of the correct letter that represents the sound.

If you have never given your preschoolers this type of activity, it is better to introduce it first, and explain and show them how to use the cards. You can even use the cards during circle time to review the name of the objects that appear in each of them and review the letter name and sound as well before you let them adventure on their own.

Always remember the developmental level of each of your preschoolers.  If they are not ready, don’t give them all the cards at a time.  The last thing you want is to make them feel frustrated and abandon the activity.

Younger preschoolers or children with disabilities might find very challenging the use of clothespins. If that’s the case, you can let them use dry– erase markers, mini erasers, Bingo chips, or any other small manipulative instead of clothespins. 

Extension Activities

To extend the activity you can:

• Have the children trace or copy the letters using pencils, crayons, or markers.
• Match each letter with magnetic, wooden, or foam letters.
• Find other words that start with the same sound.

Easter Storybooks

It is always important to add some quality storybooks to enhance any preschool theme, and to read them to your students during circle time and/or storytime.  Here are some of my favorite Easter books that could be nicely paired with these farm beginning sounds clip cards.

• The Berenstain Bears and the Easter Story by Mike Berenstain.  Young readers will understand the real meaning behind Easter with this book.

• A Very Happy Easter by Tim Thornborough.  This book is a great way to make story time interactive and explain Easter to young children in a way that connects emotionally and builds empathy.

• 5-Minute Easter Stories by Disney Books.  This book brings stories about spring-time fun or Easter Egg hunts.  Every story is a delight, perfect before bedtime, storytime, or anytime!

• The Story of the Easter Bunny by Katherine Tegen.  With gorgeous and peaceful art, this fresh, innovative story describes how one little rabbit became a legend.

• Turkey’s Eggcellent Easter by Wendi Silvano.  This cute book talks about a turkey trying to win the eggstra-special Easter egg hunt!  A fun book that will encourage your children’s imagination.

• Good News! It’s Easter! By Glenys Nellist.  The Easter season is an exciting time of growth and reflection as both nature and our human hearts anticipate the hope of new beginnings. Through playful illustrations in nature, this author introduces children to the gift of salvation.

• It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler.   This book encourages children to read all on their own, using simple words and illustrations, perfect for practicing readers ages 3-7, and lucky parents too!

• Pete the Cat: Five Little Bunnies by James Dean.  Sing along with Pete the Cat in his fun adaptation of “Five Little Monkeys”. Fans of Pete the Cat will love rocking out to this classic tune with a groovy Easter twist in this hardcover picture book.
