This Back to School Mini Bundle includes eight pages with four different activities.  You can grab it at the end of this post.

The activities included in this mini bundle are:

  • Self-Portrait – The printable includes two pages with four school bus cards each, one in color and one in black and white.  Decide what version you will use, separate the cards and cards, and give one card to each child.  Invite the child to draw a self-portrait from the bus window.  You can ask them to color the bus if you want to use the black-and-white version.
  • Complete the Pattern – This page includes five patterning activities and four pages with picture tiles. Invite your preschoolers to complete each pattern using the correct tile. On the last page, I also included four additional tiles. Preschoolers can use these tiles to create their other patterns.
  • Which is Different? – This page has four different picture combinations.  Preschoolers have to observe each section and use a dry-erase marker to circle the picture that differs from the rest in that combination.  They can use a dry-erase marker to trace the lines if the page is laminated or a regular marker, crayon, or pencil if it’s not.
  • Trace the Lines – The last page has five different lines for bringing a school bus to the school. If the page is laminated, preschoolers can use a dry-erase marker to trace the lines or a regular marker, crayon, or pencil if it’s not.

These activities will help preschoolers practice discrimination, fine motor, hand-eye coordination, control, concentration, one-to-one correspondence, and patterning skills.

If you want to use this printable as a one-time activity, print all the pages on white paper and cut out the school bus and patterning tiles. If you wish to use them multiple times, print all the pages on white cardstock and laminate everything. If you don’t want to laminate the pages, you can place them in dry-erase pockets, cut them out, and laminate only the tiles to have them available for years.

When you are done using the activity, store it on sheet protectors and place them in a binder to keep them safe.

Fill your library and the different centers with many books. Below are some of my favorites. If you don’t have them available, you can always find them at your local library or used bookstore. Of course, you can order them easily and faster through my Amazon affiliate links by clicking the titles below.

  • The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn is one of my favorite books. This super sweet book is about a little raccoon, Chester, who is afraid to go to school. His mother kisses the middle of his hand to let him know that her love will always be with him, no matter where he is.
  • How to Catch a Class Pet by Alice Walstead is a silly story with an approachable school theme. Kids will relate to cute animal characters and clever rhymes that blend STEAM concepts with hilarity and chaos to encourage reading, learning, and imagination.
  • Llama Llama Back to School by Anna Dewdney.  Using her famous character, the author tells the story of this little llama who is anxious about his first day back at school, but maybe, with some help from his friends and Mama Llama, going back to school will be fun!
  • Our Class is a Family by Shanon Olsen is a book that will help build and strengthen that class community. Kids learn that their classroom is a place where it’s safe to be themselves, it’s okay to make mistakes, and it’s essential to be a friend to others.
  • The Night Before Preschool by Natasha Wing uses simple rhyming text and sweet illustrations to soothe any child’s fears about the first day of school.

If you like The Kissing Hand as much as I do, you can find three free literacy, math, and science packs related to this story. These packs are perfect for the beginning of the school year and are ready for you to grab.

If you are in a rush and don’t have time to read the post and download the printable but want to save it, pin this to one of your Pinterest boards for later.
